Ellen SM Bengtson

Age: 28
Date of Crash: 8/2/20 in Iowa
Killed by a driver on his cellphone

Ellen’s sudden and senseless death remains unfathomable. We miss her every day. She is irreplaceable. Ellen was a Stanford EPGYU, Yale and Columbia educated chemical engineer. A math whiz who had much more to contribute in her field, and strived to make a difference in the world. She was by all measures extremely gifted.

Ellen was a loving big sister to Susan and was suppose to be her maid of honor. She was playful, and liked kids. BANANA-GRAMS traveled everywhere with her. Family time and adventures were a priority.

Ellen played the double bass and piano. We cry when hearing the piano pieces she mastered on the radio. Ellen was kind, selflessly taking the time to tutor a refugee mom in math remotely. She was soft spoken, her words were wise, and her insightful perspective and advice was profound. Ellen was an amazing person.

She was not meant to die in a ditch at age 28, from horrific injuries. Please do not drive under the influence of a phone. Share the road with cyclists.
