Our Coalition

We Save Lives’ Not an Accident Campaign advocates for accurate death certificates by providing a unified voice for our partner groups.

Our mission is to address the critical issues surrounding the classification of preventable deaths, specifically pushing to change ‘accident’ to ‘homicide’ on death certificates when appropriate.

By collaborating with us, you join a crucial effort to ensure that these deaths are correctly classified, helping to promote understanding and drive systemic change. If you represent an organization that would like to partner with us please fill out the form below.

Policy Reform

We urge the National Association of Medical Examiners to revise their definitions and classifications of homicide and related categories so they accurately reflect the true circumstances of these deaths. Clear, consistent standards are essential for aligning reporting practices with the realities faced by law enforcement, prosecutors, and public health officials.

Family Advocacy

We empower families to challenge misclassifications and pursue justice by providing practical tools, guidance, and advocacy resources. Our goal is to ensure that loved ones are represented truthfully and that families are not left to navigate complex systems alone.

Education

The Not An Accident Campaign promotes the use of truthful, precise language in media coverage, official reports, and public discussions. By correcting misleading terminology, we help shift public understanding and ensure these deaths are recognized for what they truly are.

Research & Data

We advance efforts to gather, analyze, and share evidence that reveals how misclassified deaths hinder justice and prevention. By highlighting patterns and outcomes, we support stronger accountability and advocate for vigorous prosecution in cases where crimes are wrongly labeled as accidents.
